Recycling? Why are We Putting up with this GARBAGE!
By Neil Foster, 27th July 2010
Don’t you get a kick out of recycling all old rubbish you used to just throw away so that it could be dumped into a hole in the ground called a ‘landfill site’?
Didn’t it give you a sense of achievement that you personally were doing something to clean up the environment and make the world a better place for future generations?
I’m sure we all realise that recycling waste is a good thing to do and that it’s not an unreasonable endeavour that we should all participate in. However, the age old question we should all be asking is; apart from the planet, who gains?
When I took my first load to my local recycling center a few years ago it was free and I thought that was the only way that ordinary people would ever come around to the idea of recycling and so it seemed when on subsequent visits to the center I would see many of my friends and neighbours dutifully putting their unwanted food containers, old washing machines, even unwanted timber and stone into the vast array of recycling bins supplied by the local council for this purpose.
However, it wasn’t long after this, after the people had been habitualised into using the center to get rid of unwanted goods that the first charge came into being. This was to be €2 per visit and seemed a not unreasonable sum for the service being provided and the general public did not appear to be put out by it and carried on recycling as before, washing out their old food containers, washing polystyrene and separating all the rubbish into the various categories as stated by the council.
This has now all changed with new charges set to be introduced in August whereby my own costs will rise from €2 to €7 per visit, a whopping 350% increase in the charge overnight. This of course will simply lead to the age old practice well established prior to the introduction of the recycling center of ‘fly tipping’ or in other words, dumping rubbish at the side of the road. I won’t personally but I do know that a number of people will do so simply because they can no longer afford to recycle.
At the start of this article I asked the question; who gains?
If you think about seriously for just a few minutes, the obvious question is; where does all the recycled rubbish go to and the obvious answer is that it is returned, at the taxpayer’s expense back to the industries that supplied it in the first place.
We the general public are simply being used as slaves to these industries who have manipulated the recycling industry, if they didn’t actually lobby our government for it in the first place, whereby we wash and separate all the rubbish we have to recycle into separate containers which are then shipped back to industries which will then sell it back to us. We are actually working for these industries by doing some of their work for them FOR FREE! This is slavery!
Not only that, but on my recent visit to the recycling center, the amount of bins, apart from bottle banks, have been reduced from 6 to 2 with cardboard, paper etc going into one bin and everything else going into another. So why are we bothering to separate it at all?
Is it going to come to the stage where we will have no bin collections at all from our homes and will have to take all of our rubbish to these centres eventually?
Another aspect of this which was related to me by the center operator was the matter of recycling vouchers which we are now supposed to fill in with our addresses and hand to the operator for council records. These vouchers are 2 part with the ‘stub’ to be retained by the person depositing recycling waste.
He then told me that inspectors had visited the home of someone who had recently used the center who had told him that inspectors had visited his home, apparently to carry out a survey in his area, to ascertain where he got rid of his rubbish. He told them that he used his local recycling center. They then asked him for his voucher stubs to verify that he had done so.
When he explained to them that he doesn’t keep them, he was then informed that it was illegal for him not to keep these for inspection by them whenever they required them.
This is where we’re at today, where greenies can now demand, by law, to check where and when you last recycled. This is also going to be rolled out further with the technology of RFID tagging whereby every product will be tagged and traced from production to destruction. Then when these eco fascists come knocking on your door to demand to see this or that product, you better have it or have a good reason or evidence as to why you don’t or you’ll be fined I’m sure, or accused of destroying the item illegally.
Back at the recycling center I watched as the center operator repeatedly had to explain the coming new charges to members of the public who to my surprise said absolutely nothing.
The operator told them that if they had any queries that they could contact the number on the board.
My only query is WHY ARE WE PUTTING UP WITH THIS GARBAGE!

our local recycling centre has us seperating different coloured glass into different bins , then the truck comes along and emptys them all into one thus mixing them all up again , they are either extracting the urine or some ones made another cock up. stopped recycling paper after seeing a documentary that showed a lot of this stuff is put on ships and took to china , so much for carbon footprints , my deriare
It’s time we stopped buying from the corporations. We can manage without most of this junk.
Mrs. Boyle, I think they are taking the pee. Their goal is to control us, not manage the waste.
You are been dog trained tha’s all…
Obey, obey obey…
Actually, recycling isn’t even what it is cracked up to be. In many, if not most cases, it can do more harm than good. Even if you are happy to pay through the nose to do it (thus directing funds from other better causes).
